WERONIKA SURA

An extraordinary figure of the young generation of classical musicians who breaks the artistic conventions associated with her instrument.

In December 2019, Weronika Sura released her debut solo album titled Road to Cordoba. In 2024, her second album Meditatio was released, created in collaboration with composer Dominik Lasota. It features the Concerto for Accordion and String Orchestra as well as Circles for accordion, guitar, flute, piano, and violin. The album was recorded with the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra.

She is a laureate of numerous Polish and international accordion competitions and has participated in many masterclasses led by outstanding musicians and accordion masters, including Prof. Grzegorz Stopa (Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien, Austria), Mie Miki (Folkwang Universität der Künste, Essen, Germany), Stefan Hussong (Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Germany), and Yuri Shishkin (Conservatory Sergei Rachmaninov in Rostov, Russia). Weronika performs both in Poland and abroad—solo, with orchestras, and in chamber ensembles. As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras conducted by, among others, Krzesimir Dębski, Tomasz Szymuś, Nicolas Krauze, and Sławek A. Wróblewski.

She has presented her artistry on prestigious stages such as the Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Grand Theatre–National Opera, the Forest Opera, as well as at music festivals and major cultural events in Poland, Switzerland, the United States, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Turkey, and Italy. She collaborates with emerging composers and has premiered numerous contemporary works. Engaged in innovative and artistic commercial projects, she has worked with Krzesimir Dębski on the occasion of his 50th creative anniversary.

She also records accordion music for films and theater productions. Her repertoire reflects her personal interests and inspirations drawn from various world cultures and folk traditions—both Polish and international. She performs classical music by composers from Spain, Japan, Germany, Argentina, Poland, and France. From the beginning of her career, she has experimented with the sound of the accordion and accompanying instruments. In creating her own artistic projects, she combines sounds rarely paired with the accordion, including cello, piano, violin, marimba, trumpet, guitar, flugelhorn, flute, Armenian duduk, and vocals. Weronika Sura is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she studied under Prof. Klaudiusz Baran.

She also holds a degree in management from the University of Warsaw. Currently, she is a doctoral student and lecturer at the University of Rzeszów. She runs the Rzeszów Academy of Music, which educates over 150 students.
